Smoking’ Red Hot Fun Awaits You!
The Third Annual Chili Cook- Off sponsored by the Wimberley Community Civic Club as part of Spring Event will be held on Saturday, March 22, at the Wimberley Lions Market Day Pavilion. Chili cook-off teams will begin reporting to the Pavilion starting at 7:00 a.m., and spectator tasting will begin at 11:00 a.m. The event will end at 3:30 p.m. Admission for spectators is $5.
Last year’s cook off was a great success with individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations competing for awards in three categories of chili: red, white, and green. This year, the event will follow the same rules.
Local celebrity judges will sample and select the best chili in each category. In addition, chili cook-off patrons will sample and select one chili for the People’s Choice Award. Trophies will be awarded to all winners and a special prize will be given to the best booth, based on theme, visual display, hospitality, and showmanship.
In addition to being able to sample some of the best chili in the Wimberley Valley and beyond, those attending the event will enjoy the live music of local bands and vocal performers throughout the day. The Wimberley Civic Club wants the event to be fun for the whole family, and this year it has added a special children’s area and has invited local vendors to showcase their products. Home-baked goods, soft drinks, and beer will also be available.
The Civic Club is inviting local businesses, non-profit organizations, individuals, and social groups to participate in the cook-off. We know there are many talented cooks in this area, and that chili is a favorite, and would like to have as many of those as contestants. Booths are still available and the fee to enter is $50 per chili. Each entrant will receive a 10% shopping card from Brookshire Brothers.
If you are not a cook but would like to support the event, you can join many local businesses and make a donation towards sponsorship of Cook-Off. Sponsors receive complimentary tickets, signage, and recognition at the event. The Civic Club wants to thank Ozona Bank, HEB, Brookshire Brothers, State Farm Insurance, Gina and Tom Fulkerson, the Blanco Bank, and DeMasters-Daniel Insurance for their generous sponsorships, as well as the Wimberley Lions Club and Deer Creek Nursing Center for their continuing support of the Cook Off.
